El Paso Commission for Women recognizes Laura Castle for her tireless work as a water safety advocate!

March 28, 2025

I want to thank the El Paso Commission for Women for recognizing Laura for her tireless work as a water safety advocate and founding member of the Drowning Coalition of El Paso. I know she does not feel deserving and is uncomfortable with any attention for it. Her efforts have been supported by many El Paso friends and partners - certainly with a great deal of help from local business and community organizations. On her own she has trained almost 2000 kids/babies in self rescue with many stories from families where their little one fell in a pool while no one was watching. Her lessons have truly spared others a tragedy. From my vantage point - I remember the long days invested by her to learn and troubleshoot this; she did not become a nationally recognized expert in water safety overnight. She has a grown from a momma on a mission with self-doubt and fear, to a confident and resolute leader that can solve any problem and motivate any group of people. Ms. Laura can really reach those little tiny humans who can’t speak with words yet! Please give her a pat on the back and some much earned admiration for her efforts over the last 18 years.
