Drowning Prevention Coalition Water Safety Media Day Education.
According to the CDC, Drowning is a leading cause of death among children 1-4 years of age. Deaths among persons with autism spectrum disorder were nearly 40x as likely to be caused by drowning as deaths in the general. Only 45% of adults have had swimming lessons. In 2023, Texas had 90 fatal drownings to children under 18 years. El Paso had one 3 year old male that fatally drown. Drownings are preventable with education, swim lessons, constant supervision around the water including pools, hot tubs, bath tubs, ice chests, fish ponds, canals, lakes, Splash Pads and Water Parks. Respect the Water and have a Safe Summer.
