Christian Castle Lifeguard Olympics Competition

August 1, 2021

El Paso, TEXAS – The Drowning Prevention Coalition of El Paso will host the 10 th annual Christian Castle Lifeguard Olympics at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 1,2021 at Wet n’ Wild Waterworld.

The Competition is named after Christian Castle who lost his life through a drowning at five years old in 2009 and is the son of Laura and Eddie Castle who together started the Drowning Prevention Coalition in 2010.

This competitive, annual event provides lifeguards from organizations throughout the city an opportunity to practice lifesaving skills while highlighting the training and duties that lifeguards experience on a daily basis in their day-to-day jobs.

The event is sponsored by Sundt, Wet n’ Wild Waterworld and the Drowning Prevention Coalition of El Paso as 19 teams will be competing from the YWCA El Paso Del Norte, Fort Bliss, Wet n’ Wild Waterworld, Ascarate Pool from County of El Paso, Socorro Aquatics Center, Lost Kingdom Water Park and the city of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department. We would also like to thank El Paso Water for donations along with the Castle and Gutierrez Families.

Each team will have four members with one being a female in five separate skill challenges which include A Mass Casualty Exercise, Shallow Water Back Boarding, Backboard Treading, a 2 minute Drill Rescue and a Tow Relay. Awards will be given for First through Third Place in each individual skill challenge and an overall champion will be announced.

The Drowning Prevention Coalition is an organization of over 31 agencies in the El Paso region dedicated to spreading the message of “Respect the Water“, teaching water safety and teaching both children and adults the importance of Learning to Swim.
